Diplomas Now School Wins National 2011 Get Schooled Fall Attendance Challenge
Diplomas Now congratulates partner Aki Kurose Middle School in Seattle, WA for winning the national title in the 2011 Get Schooled Fall Attendance Challenge. Aki Kurose led the pack of nearly 80,000 students at 73 schools in 17 states this fall. Through the challenge, its students improved their attendance by a remarkable 3.7 percent.
The Diplomas Now model places a high premium on attendance – it’s the ‘A’ in the model’s key ABCs of attendance, behavior and course performance. Aki Kurose faculty, administrators and the entire DN team rallied the middle school’s more than 500 students to victory in the challenge, which was sponsored by the Get Schooled Foundation. In addition to their impressive 3.7 percent attendance bump, Aki Kurose students completed more than 900 quizzes on science, geography, and pop culture and wrote 450 testimonials to teachers who motivate them.
Aki Kurose students and staff will be recognized at a star-studded gala this winter, and students will be awarded significant college scholarships. Watch the video that Aki Kurose made about their effort to get to school on time.
